Academician Kwo Ray Chu

Academician Kwo Ray Chu's Personal Profiles

Professor Kwo Ray Chu was born on October 10, 1942. He received the B.S. degree in physics from the National Taiwan University in 1965, the M.S. degree in physics from the University of Massachusetts in 1968, and the Ph.D. degree in applied physics from Cornell University in 1972. He specializes in plasma physics and, in particular, the generation of coherent electromagnetic waves via the electron cyclotron maser interaction. From 1973 to 1983, he was associated with the U. S. Naval Research Laboratory, where he directed the Advanced Concepts Section in research on coherent electromagnetic radiation generation. During this same period, he also served for three years as an Adjunct Associate Professor in the Department of Applied Sciences at Yale University. Since September 1983, he has been a Professor in the Physics Department of National Tsing Hua University (NTHU), Taiwan.
